19. The Pain of Discipline Is Choosing to Lead Yourself When No One Else Will
True discipline means leading yourself, even when there’s no external pressure. It means creating your own deadlines, your own urgency, your own accountability. That kind of self-leadership is painful. It’s easier to be told what to do, to follow someone else’s structure. But if you want freedom—real, lasting freedom—you must first master discipline. That means taking control of your time, your habits, and your mind. It means being your own coach, your own motivator, your own drill sergeant. And though that leadership is demanding, it is the foundation of every great life.
